STUART MALINA, one of America’s most versatile and accomplished conductors,
is likewise an excellent concert pianist with extensive chamber music experience. It
is in the role as pianist that the former Music Director of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra returns for this MGS program.
Mr. Malina combined his skills as conductor and pianist in his Carnegie Hall
debut in February of 2007 when he conducted the New York Pops from the keyboard in an all-Gershwin tribute. Since June 2000 he has been Music Director and Conductor of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. He holds degrees from Harvard University, the Yale School of Music, and the Curtis Institute of Music.
His expressive and charismatic style has made ALEXANDER KERR one of the most accomplished
and versatile violinists on the international music scene today. In 1996 at the
age of 26, Mr. Kerr was appointed to the prestigious position of Concertmaster of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. He left in 2006
to assume a chaired position as Professor of Violin at Indiana
University as the string department's youngest violin professor. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he maintains a busy concert schedule
appearing as soloist with orchestras and in recital and chamber music performances throughout the States, Asia, and Europe. He has recorded extensively.
This concert is sponsored by American Express.
