THE
NORTH CAROLINA SCHOOL OF THE ARTS BRASS QUINTET has distinguished itself as a first-rate ensemble of stellar artists/teachers. JUDITH SAXTON, trumpet teacher and Brass Coordinator at NCSA, is a faculty member
of the Eastern Music Festival and is principal with the Key West Symphony and Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival. NCSA large ensembles manager KEN WILMOT, trumpet, is in demand throughout the United States
and Europe performing with bands such as The Four Tops and the Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey
Orchestras, and is also a founding member of the Giannini Brass. DAVID JOLLEY,
horn, receives accolades from the New York Times as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician of “remarkable
virtuosity.” His recital appearances throughout the States include performances
with the Guarneri Quartet, Beaux Arts Trio, and the Chamber Music Society at Lincoln
Center. In addition to his
teaching at NCSA, JAMES MILLER, trombone, is associate principal trombonist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed with numerous ensembles of varying styles—jazz, rock, and Latin—from
the Silk Road Ensemble to the Mainly Mozart Festival. MATT RANSOM, tuba, performs
not only with Winston Salem Symphony but also with Carolina Brass and orchestras throughout the southeast and in Europe.
