MUSIC FOR A GREAT SPACE PRESENTS:

GREENSBORO YOUTH CHORUS

Now celebrating its 24th season, the Greensboro Youth Chorus has participated in local, regional and international choral events including music conventions, camps and vocal method presentations. GYC has had many prestigious and exciting experiences including state, national and international competitions and festivals as well as collaborations with outstanding conductors, composers and instrumentalists. Their international tours include Kathaumixw International Choral Festival (Powell River, British Columbia), Central European Choral Festival (Germany and France) and the Canterbury Choral Festival (England). GYC has performed with the Greensboro Symphony, Greensboro Opera Company, UNCG Opera Theatre, and Bel Canto Company.

Ann K. Doyle, Founder and Artistic Director, is a graduate of UNC Greensboro with post-graduate work at Memphis State University. For over 30 years, Ms. Doyle has served North Carolina schools, churches and community groups as a teacher, a mentor, a collaborative performer, and an adjudicator. Ann was instrumental in organizing the Piedmont Invitational Children's Choir Festival and the Advanced Choral Workshop, currently held annually in different North Carolina cities. In 2003, Ms. Doyle received the Award of Merit for outstanding achievement in the progress of Better Music in the Greensboro Area, presented by the Euterpe Club of Greensboro. Ms. Doyle currently maintains a private coaching studio at her home.

Tom T. Shelton, Jr., Conductor and Composer in Residence, is a native of Greensboro and holds both a Master of Music in Choral Conducting and a Bachelor of Music Education from UNC Greensboro. Shelton taught middle school choral music in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County for eighteen years. During this time he was selected "Teacher of the Year" for both Atkins Middle School and Kernersville Middle School, and in 1999 was presented the North Carolina Middle School Music "Teacher of the Year" award by the NC Music Educators Association (NCMEA).

An active clinician, Mr. Shelton has conducted Elementary and Middle School Honor Choirs throughout the United States. In 2007, he traveled to Hong Kong to conduct a piece he was commissioned to write for the Hong Kong International School. Mr. Shelton has compositions published by Colla Voce Music, Heritage Music Press, Hinshaw Music Company, and Santa Barbara Music Press. Currently he is the Associate Director of Music Ministry for Children and Youth at First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro.

Nana Wolfe-Hill, Accompanist and Conductor, holds a Master of Music in Collaborative Piano Performance from UNC Greensboro, and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Music Education from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Before pursuing a Master's degree, she was the Associate Choral Director at Lakeville High School in Lakeville, Minnesota. During her tenure, the Lakeville Choirs toured England, Wales, and Italy. In 2004, she participated in a summer program for singers and pianists with the University of Miami at Salzburg College in Austria under the tutelage of Glen Lewis, Margaret Singer, and Martin Katz. In recent years Ms. Wolfe-Hill was a vocal coach and accompanist for the UNCG Opera program and an adjunct faculty member at Bennett College as a piano teacher, accompanist, and coach. Since 2008, she has worked with the Greensboro Youth Chorus as a conductor and accompanist. In addition, she is also the Director of Educational Programs at the Eastern Music Festival and is pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting at UNCG.
